Catholic Days at the Capitol
Make the Trip to Catholic Days at the Capitol and Make a Difference
Each year Catholics from around the state gather in Tallahassee to participate in Catholic Days at the Capitol. This two-day event provides the opportunity to put into action our faith's call to political responsibility and allows us to strengthen the presence of our Catholic values in the public square. By joining with Floridians who share our faith to advocate for laws that protect and defend human life and dignity, we can give a voice to some of the most vulnerable and marginalized populations in our state and help promote the common good for all of Florida's residents.
Catholic Days activities include:
March 26-28, 2019
The Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops focused on advocacy in support of the following 3 issues:
Parental consent prior to a minor’s abortion - SB 1774 (Stargel) / HB 1335 (Grall) Requires abortion providers to get parental or guardian consent, or to refer a minor at risk of abuse or coercion to a court to obtain consent, prior to an abortion; requires providers to maintain and submit records of abortions provided to minors with privacy protections in place
Parental empowerment in education - SB 7070 (Education Committee) / HB 7075 (Education Committee, Sullivan) Provides additional scholarship funding for lower income students in elementary and secondary schools for private schooling
Funding for protection of natural resources - $2.5 billion over 4 years; $625 million this FY to protect the aquifer, springs, coastal waters, the everglades, and rivers.
